As one of the industry’s most exciting emerging talents, Andrea Marq’s exceptional makeup and hair work has spanned the spectrum from Access Hollywood and the White House Correspondence Dinner to film/TV productions and print work (Vogue Italia, CBS Watch Magazine) to fashion runway fare like the Anne Taylor Holiday Collection and the Nordstrom Spring Preview.
Even with a hectic schedule that is expanding rapidly in entertainment, media, and fashion circles, Andrea still makes time for another of her core passions, which is bringing her skill and experience to the “everyday client” and helping them to enhance their appearance, unleash the hidden depths of their beauty and reach the summits of their confidence and self-image.
Whether it’s keeping clients sharp and ready through weekly/bi-weekly upkeep and maintenance, creating exciting NEW looks, spearheading makeovers, or preparing them for major life events like Weddings, Proms and Galas, Andrea is there wielding her magic with stunning precision and dependable consistency.
For Andrea, beauty is much more than a trade or profession. It’s far more than simple technical application. Clients are more than names in an appointment book. Andrea’s philosophy is that makeup and hair is an art – a life long pursuit of excellence – a passion; and her clients are the canvas on which she applies her art.
In this sense, each and every Client is unique and special.
“Confidence is your greatest accessory…next to your lipstick.” ~ Andrea Marq
The Path to Art
No one is born a professional and no one wakes up one morning with the skills to function in the industry on a professional level. It takes hard work, dedication and passionate motivation.
In Andrea’s own words …
“I started doing makeup and hair to make other women feel beautiful. Playing in my makeup made me feel good about myself. It ignited a confidence and self-assuredness that felt intoxicating. I wanted to give other women that same feeling of euphoria. I find inspiration in individuality and uniqueness.”
Growing up, Andrea had an extreme adoration for fashion. She was intrigued by the way garments seemed to come alive when worn. It was nothing short of fascinating and became an obsession. Andrea knew somehow she had to become a part of this amazing and ever changing industry.
Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, who could construct and recreate garments from magazines with incredible ease and accuracy, Andrea learned to use a sewing machine. She worked with patterns, using different textiles and fabrics, learning about stitching and technique. Honing her skills and knowledge gained over the years, Andrea studied fashion merchandising in undergrad with an eye on pursuing a career in fashion design. Because of her previous knowledge of sewing, she excelled in apparel and construction design, but soon realized design was not for her. Andrea changed course and pursued retail buying instead.
During her undergrad career, she worked as a seasonal floater at Lord and Taylor, which gave her the opportunity to study and master every department, as well as learn the types of merchandise she wanted to buy.
Almost immediately, cosmetics stood out as Andrea’s favorite. She researched the various cosmetic lines, and studied makeup application. As time progressed, her passion grew and her skills improved. Andrea knew, without any doubt, that makeup artistry was her career path.
Conceptually however, Andrea’s life-altering epiphany didn’t end with discovering her career passion. She now realized that all the time and dedication she’d poured into fashion and sewing years earlier hadn’t been for nothing. It was essentially preparation for her true pursuit, and the techniques and nuances she learned in that world would help refine her approach to beauty and add to her skill-set and creativity.
“My goal was to combine my love of beauty with my love for fashion.”
Andrea obtained a makeup application license from the Von Lee International School of Aesthetics in 2007, and worked with MAC for three years as well as with other major cosmetic brands such as Lancome, Clinique, Chanel, Dior, Bobby Brown, Smash Box, Shisedo and Laura Mercier. She obtained her cosmetology license from the Paul Mitchell School (Tyson’s Corner, VA) and has had countless opportunities to share her artistry.
Andrea’s philosophy is…Beauty is subjective; and it expresses an art form that is commonly unorthodox.
